Oakridge is proud to be designated as a Purple Star school. This designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. We are honored to serve military children and their families.  To make your transition here as smooth as possible, we would like to provide helpful resources and highlight some of the ways we celebrate our military families at Oakridge. Planning Your Arrival to Arlington Public Schools (APS)

If you are transferring from a duty station outside the Commonwealth of Virginia, we encourage you to visit the Virginia Department of Education’s Military Families page, which outlines the rights, resources, and support available to military families relocating to Virginia. To learn more about Arlington Public Schools, you may also visit the APS Military Families page, where military-connected families can find helpful information, guidance, and resources specific to the district.

APS also offers optional text message alerts to keep families informed about important updates and notifications. You can sign up at: https://www.apsva.us/schooltalk/. Additionally, new residents are encouraged to explore the “Welcome Kit for New Arlington Residents,” provided by the Arlington County government. This online resource includes helpful information about services, programs, and community resources available in Arlington.
