Military Families at Oakridge Elementary
We are honored to welcome and support military-connected students and families at Oakridge Elementary School! Oakridge is proud to be designated as a Purple Star School, a recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to serving military-connected students and families. Through specialized training and ongoing support efforts, we strive to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for every military family in our community. We understand that military life often brings transitions and new beginnings. Our goal is to help make your move to Oakridge and Arlington Public Schools as smooth as possible by providing helpful resources, strong communication, and a caring school community. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by our military families and are proud to celebrate and support you throughout your time at Oakridge. Planning Your Arrival to Arlington Public Schools (APS)
If you are relocating from a duty station outside the Commonwealth of Virginia, we encourage you to explore the Virginia Department of Education’s Military Families webpage, which provides information about the rights, resources, and supports available to military-connected families transitioning to Virginia schools. To learn more about Arlington Public Schools and the supports available specifically for military families, please visit the APS Military Families webpage. Families can find important enrollment information, district resources, and guidance to support a successful transition into APS. APS also offers optional School Talk text message alerts to help families stay informed about important school and district updates. You can sign up here:
New Arlington residents may also find the county’s Welcome Kit especially helpful. This resource includes information about local services, programs, events, and community resources available throughout Arlington County.
