One World, Many Stories
We celebrate Oakridge as a Mosaic Neighborhood School. We choose globally diverse children’s literature to expose students to cultures from around the world. Using these books as mentor texts, teachers implement strategies to scaffold students’ literacy, promote global citizenship, and inspire lifelong learning.
This year’s literacy focus is writing. Our overarching Mosaic theme is cause and effect. Other themes include: connections, perseverance, animals, poetry, music to tell stories, instruments, and reduce, reuse, recycle.
Dawn Amin-Arsala, the project coordinator, collaborates with teachers, parents, and community members to implement the project as well as related school-wide enrichment activities (e.g., author visits, visiting musicians and artists, field trips, and assemblies). Please do read our 2015-2016 Mosaic Books section for more information. If you have any connections to people, organizations, or activities that might support this year’s selections, please contact Ms. Amin-Arsala at email@example.com.
